Acupressure Mats have actually been in use for many years; they are considered to be ‘The Mother of Acupuncture’ being used to simulate the body’s energy low long before the more commonly known needles were used for this purpose. From a physical side the points on the mat simulate the release of endorphins and a range of other calming hormones within the body, which in turn, help with natural pain relief and also increases the blood & lymph circulaion which has a healing efect. The result is a sense of deep relaxaion and natural well being.
The mat is made from Thermo Plasic Elastomer, which is basically a strong non-allergic material and consists of a high density of plasic spines which have been arranged in a way to best simulate the body’s internal abiliies to heal. They contain no latex or PVC.
This easy to use highly effective acupressure device is popular in many countries and is variously named. You can find that Acupressure mat in different sources can be called Tibetan or Kuznetsov Applicator, Russian Prickle Pad, Bed of nails or even Hedgehog.
In Scandinavian countries it is also widely known as Spike mat or Spikmatta, Piikkimatto or even Shaktimatto or Shakti Mat, Shaktimat or Shaktimattan.
The names can have different roots but the meaning and the application are still the same.

I have one of these acupressure mats and it rocks. I was a little skeptical at first but realized they work.
These look very interesting. I’d be tempted to try one to see how effective it is in treating lower back pain.
Acupressure is very effective specially if you are constantly in trouble with stress. It is an effective de-stress tool. I found it to be really nice.
I use mine most days for hip and back pain as well as just relaxation.

The best Acupressure Mats I have tried is the Tibetan Acupressure Mat, all the others seem to have this foam underneath which is just a killer for my sensitive skin.
I own one of these mats and use it all the time. Its great for reducing stress.
These are actually quite cool. I work in social services job placement and am expecting a baby. I use an acupressure mat for relaxing while pregnant. Cool, cool product!
Hi Jobs,
Everything I have read says you should not use one while pregnant.
Something to do with the increased blood flow.
All the best…Sam
